A Beautiful Location
for Growing Families
If you're looking for one of the most beautiful locations for family photos in the western suburbs, Cantigny Park is always near the top of my list.
With its winding garden paths, colorful seasonal blooms, open green spaces, and beautiful water features, Cantigny offers an incredible variety of backdrops while still feeling relaxed and family-friendly. It's one of those locations that photographs beautifully throughout much of the year and provides plenty of opportunities for both posed portraits and candid moments.
This sweet family recently met me at Cantigny to celebrate a very special milestone: their little boy's first birthday.
One of the things I love most about milestone family sessions is that they allow us to document more than just a birthday. They're an opportunity to capture an entire season of family life. The tiny expressions, growing personalities, sibling relationships, and everyday connections that change so quickly during the first few years deserve to be remembered.
Throughout the session, we explored some of Cantigny's beautiful gardens while giving the kids plenty of room to move, play, and simply be themselves. Young children are naturally curious, and locations like Cantigny help create an experience that feels more like an adventure than a photoshoot.
Their daughter was absolutely wonderful with her younger brother, and watching the two of them interact throughout the session created some of my favorite images from the evening. Those sibling relationships often become even more meaningful as the years pass, making it especially valuable to document them while children are still little.
Of course, we also took time to celebrate the birthday boy. His growing independence, curious personality, and sweet smiles were on full display as he explored the gardens and enjoyed being the center of attention for a little while.
One question I often receive from families is whether Cantigny is a good location for young children.
The answer is absolutely.
The variety of scenery means we can move throughout the property without needing to travel far, and there are plenty of spaces where children can safely explore while we create natural, connection-focused images. The gardens offer beautiful color and texture without overwhelming the photographs, allowing your family's interactions to remain the focus.
