Summer Brader Photography
Downers Grove
Family, Newborn & Maternity
Photographer
Natural, relaxed photography for families who want beautiful images without the awkward posing, forced smiles, or pressure to have everything perfectly together.
I'm Summer, the photographer behind Summer Brader Photography, and Downers Grove isn't just where I work. It's where I grew up, where I built my business, and where I opened my photography studio right in the heart of downtown.
From welcoming a new baby to updating family photos with kids who have absolutely no intention of cooperating, my approach is simple. I'll handle the planning, help you feel comfortable, and make sure the experience is just as enjoyable as the photographs themselves.

Photography in Downers Grove
There's a reason I love photographing families in Downers Grove. We have beautiful tree-lined neighborhoods, charming downtown streets, quiet natural areas, and some wonderful places to photograph families throughout the year.
As someone who grew up here, I know the area beyond the usual popular photo spots. I also know how much the location, lighting, season, and time of day can change the way your photographs look.
Whether you're looking for a family session surrounded by fall colors, a quiet maternity session, or newborn photographs in a comfortable studio setting, I'll help you choose an option that makes sense for your family.
You don't need to figure out the location, lighting, or what everyone should wear on your own. That's all part of the experience.

A Photography Studio in Downtown Downers Grove

Located in downtown Downers Grove, my photography studio offers a comfortable, thoughtfully designed space for newborn, maternity, milestone, and family photography.
The studio is perfect for families who love clean, timeless images without worrying about the weather, unpredictable temperatures, or finding the perfect outdoor location.
For newborn sessions, it's a relaxed space where we can slow things down, follow your baby's lead, and capture those tiny details alongside natural family interactions.
It's also a wonderful option for maternity portraits, milestone sessions, and families who prefer a simple backdrop that keeps the focus on the people in the photographs.
And yes, having a studio means we can create beautiful images even when Chicago weather decides to be Chicago weather.

Downers Grove Family Photography

Family photography should feel like spending time together, not like trying to convince everyone to smile at the camera for an hour.
My Downers Grove family photography sessions are designed around connection, movement, and the little interactions that make your family yours. We'll get those beautiful photographs of everyone together, but we'll also make room for the laughter, silliness, and genuine moments in between.
I offer both full family sessions and mini sessions, depending on the experience and flexibility you're looking for.
Full sessions allow more time, location flexibility, and a complete gallery of images. Mini sessions are offered on select dates and at predetermined locations throughout the year.
Every session includes thoughtful planning and styling guidance so you're not left wondering what to wear or where to go.

Downers Grove Newborn Photography

Those first few weeks with a newborn are a blur. Between feedings, figuring out sleep, and adjusting to life with a new little person, the last thing you need is another complicated thing to plan.
My newborn photography sessions are relaxed, baby-led, and designed to capture your family naturally.
Sessions are available in my downtown Downers Grove studio or in the comfort of your home. There's no pressure for your baby to sleep through the session, and there's plenty of flexibility for feeding, changing, and settling.
I photograph newborns during their first six weeks, giving families time to settle in rather than worrying about fitting everything into the first few days.
You'll receive guidance before your session, including what to wear, how to prepare, and what to expect.
Beautiful Places for Photography Sessions
in Downers Grove
Choosing the right location is about more than finding a pretty background. The lighting, time of year, accessibility, and overall atmosphere all matter.
I help families select locations that work for their session and the ages of their children. Some families love a natural setting with room to move, while others prefer architecture, downtown streets, or the simplicity of a studio.
Here are a few of my favorite options in Downers Grove.

Downtown Downers Grove photography sessions

Charming, classic, and full of character.
Downtown Downers Grove offers historic buildings, brick details, storefronts, and a variety of interesting backdrops within a walkable area.
It's a wonderful option for families who want something a little different from the traditional field or forest setting. Downtown sessions can feel playful, modern, and timeless all at once.

Maple Grove Forest Preserve

Wooded, natural, and beautiful throughout the seasons.
Maple Grove Forest Preserve is one of my favorite local locations for family photography.
With mature trees, wooded trails, and a creek, it provides a beautiful natural setting without needing elaborate scenery.
It's especially lovely in the fall, but its natural textures and soft light make it a wonderful choice during other seasons as well.

Studio photography sessions

Not every photography session needs to happen outdoors.
My downtown Downers Grove studio offers a simple, comfortable alternative for families who prefer a timeless look or want to avoid the uncertainty of outdoor weather.
Studio sessions are particularly popular for newborns, babies, maternity portraits, and milestone photographs, but they can also be a wonderful option for family sessions.
With neutral surroundings and an emphasis on natural interaction, the studio allows us to focus on what matters most without distractions.

A Relaxed, Fully Planned Photography Experience
I've been photographing families for years, and if there's one thing I've learned, it's that the best photographs rarely happen when everyone is trying too hard.
You don't need perfectly behaved children, a Pinterest-worthy wardrobe, or a family that loves being photographed.
You just need to show up. I'll take care of the rest.
From choosing your session location and coordinating outfits to guiding you through the session itself, I provide a thoughtfully planned experience that makes the entire process easier.
I'll offer direction when it's needed, give your kids space to be themselves, and make sure we capture a variety of photographs without turning the session into a production.
And if your toddler decides they're in charge? Trust me, I've worked with tougher management.

Do you offer mini family photography sessions?
Yes. Mini sessions are available on select dates throughout the year at predetermined locations. Full family sessions offer more flexibility with scheduling, location selection, and the number of included images.

Absolutely. Newborn sessions are designed to include your immediate family, and I encourage parents and siblings to participate.

Completed galleries are typically delivered within two to three days (YES that is correct! DAYS not weeks) following your photography session. If there are circumstances that do not allow that turnaround time I will communicate that with you.
