Why the First Year Deserves to Be Remembered

The first year of a child's life has a way of moving faster than any other.

One moment you're bringing home a newborn who fits perfectly in your arms, and before you know it, they're taking their first steps, showing off their personality, and celebrating their first birthday.

This sweet family recently visited my Downtown Downers Grove studio to celebrate their little boy's first birthday, and it was such a joy to see them again. One of my favorite parts of being a family photographer is getting to watch families grow through the years and document the milestones that often feel like they happen in the blink of an eye.

While first birthday sessions are certainly about celebrating your little one, they're also about documenting the family you've become over the past year. The way siblings interact, the way parents look at their children, and the relationships that continue to grow are just as meaningful as the milestone itself.

For this session, we kept things simple and timeless. The clean, natural setting of the studio allowed the focus to stay exactly where it belonged: on the connection between this family and the personality of their growing little boy. His curious expressions, growing independence, and sweet moments with his big sister all helped tell the story of this exciting season.
